Frequently Asked Questions
What is goss183?
GOSS183 is the publishing house for various titles including PoetsArtists, Hashtag Art Magazine, MiPOesias, OCHO, iARTistas and other print products including broadsides and full length books.
WHAT DOES GOSS183 STAND FOR?
As stated above GOSS183 is the name of our publishing house. If you ever read the fine print on any of our PoetsArtists, MiPOesias, and OCHO publications you will see it mentioned. Because it is the name of our publishing house, it stands for an address. If you are ever in Cuba, go to Goss 183 in la habana and you will see the house that the Menendez family had to leave behind during their refuge to the USA during the Cuban Revolution.
What is PoetsArtists?
PoetsArtists is a publication and community which includes membership. Membership is available through Patreon or through the yearly option at the PoetsArtists website.
WHAT IS PATREON?
Patreon is a platform which pays creatives. PoetsArtists and GOSS183 have set up a Patreon page so that membership options may become available for artists and poets to easily submit to our various exhibition calls.
Didi Menendez is the creative in this case and she is creating opportunities for exhibitions and publications as well as helping artists sell their works. She is also creating a community which includes artists, writers, art collectors and other art aficionados. The members receive insights into how things work behind the scenes and may be included in social media, articles and print ads when their work is accepted.
Different tiers are available when joining. Stop by www.patreon.com/didimenendez for further details.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YEARLY MEMBERSHIP AND PATREON?
There are no differences between either as far as benefits are concerned. Yearly members receive a discounted fee for paying in advance. It is recommended that Yearly Members follow the Patreon posts or sign up for the $1 tier if they would like to continue receiving updates. Otherwise, they should sign up for the member newsletter. The Facebook group is being discontinued for updates and only used to meet other artists.
Yearly members are unable to access Patreon posts otherwise especially the posts which are meant for the $10 tier. All the information which is posted on Patreon is cross posted on the Facebook group or sent by email newsletters.
A small group of yearly members who work independently are included in our beta testing of new products, procedures, and innovative ideas we try out before offering to the rest of the community.
Yearly membership is not for everyone. We currently do not have any spots available.
WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF BECOMING A MEMBER?
To sell your work, place you in galleries, exhibitions, and increase your social media following.
What is Artsy?
Artsy is a platform used by galleries to sell artwork. Didi Menendez partnered with the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago to offer members the opportunity to have their work up on Artsy and also Artnet. It is one of the many benefits of membership.
HOW DO I GET MY ARTWORK UP ON ARTSY if i am a member?
Once your work is accepted for an exhibition at the Zhou B Art Center, your work will be uploaded to Artsy after you have signed an agreement provided by Didi Menendez via the Zhou B Art Center. Didi Menendez is the curator of the works which are uploaded to the Zhou B Art Center from the PoetsArtists/GOSS183 community.
We also have the option of uploading works which are in our publications as well as artwork which is available and may be a good fit for the ZBAC Artsy Online Exclusive page.
HOW DO I SUBMIT?
Go to our submission calls page and read the guidelines for each call. If you are submitting to an exhibition, use the universal form. The link to the universal form is found on Patreon or was emailed to you when you signed up as a yearly member. It is also posted in the Facebook group for Yearly members.
Each call has a specific request from the curator/s and editors. Make sure to read our general guidelines before preparing your files. Artwork which is not submitted properly will be deleted before it is shown to our guest curators. Members will receive a courtesy email from Didi Menendez to try again.
IS THERE A FEE TO SUBMIT?
Submission fees for physical exhibition calls are included at the $10 tier and with yearly membership. If you are not a member you may still submit to our physical exhibition calls. Scroll to the bottom of the page for each call to find the submission form for non-members. There is a $25 non-refundable fee if you are not a member for these calls.
There are no fees when submitting to GOSS183 magazine. This is a publication and anyone may submit to it unlike the exhibition catalogs we publish with PoetsArtists.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY WORK IS ACCEPTED FOR AN EXHIBITION?
If an artwork is accepted for a physical exhibition the artist will be notified after the submission deadline and will be sent an artist agreement form from the gallery or museum the work will be exhibited at. The form has details about sales, shipping of artwork and other important information the artist must agree upon and sign before shipping their work to the venue. Read our general guidelines before submitting work to any call.
If the gallery has an Artsy or Artnet page the works will be uploaded and available to buy online. From the moment the agreement is signed and received by the gallery, the sale will go through the gallery. The gallery may maintain the works up on Artsy for a time-frame after the show ends and may continue to sell up to the time-frame the gallery specifies in the agreement.
The commission structure for each venue may differ so please read each agreement carefully.
CAN I SEND MY PAINTING ROLLED UP IN A TUBE FOR AN EXHIBITION?
Some venues do accept rolled up canvases as long as the stretchers are also included. Check with the gallery or organizer before sending your work rolled up. The ZBAC and WMOCA accept this method.
WHAT IS A VIRTUAL SHOW?
Some of our calls and publications offer the option of having the artwork accepted available to sell online. These are called Virtual Shows and the artist is responsible for shipping to the new collector if an artwork sells. The virtual shows may be available from the PoetsArtists and Hashtag Art Magazine website as well as from the Zhou B Art Center Artsy page. An agreement to sell the work will be exchanged by email between Didi Menendez and the artist.
HOW DO I SELL MY ARTWORK THROUGH YOUR WEBSITE?
Submit to one of our calls whether it is for a publication, a virtual show, or a physical exhibition. If your work is accepted you will be introduced to a pool of galleries, subscribers, and collectors via our publication and exhibition catalogs.
HOW DO I GET INVITED TO EXHIBIT?
Depending on some of our submission calls, guest curators may invite artists to participate in one of our exhibitions. This is at the discretion of the curator. We do this so that we may have very well known artists exhibit with the open call. Read each call to see if curators are inviting artists outside of our community. When this happens the curator will send the invited artist information on how to send images for the catalog. Not all calls are available for invites.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO NOT SEND IN MY IMAGES IN TIME FOR THE CATALOG DEADLINE FOR AN EXHIBIT?
If you were invited to submit by one of our guest curators and you do not send in your images and other materials requested by the deadline, your work will not exhibit.
WHO PAYS FOR SHIPPING?
All artists are responsible for shipping their artwork to and from the exhibition venue. If the work sells the venue will add shipping charges and ship the artwork to the new collector after payment has been received.
Some venues accept rolled up canvases with stretchers. Check what is recommended once your artwork is accepted.
Our members receive shipping discounts. Check your membership platform for further details.
All artworks are to be packaged accordingly and must be ready to hang. Works which do not have the proper hangers or are misrepresented from the original accepted digital images will be returned to the artists after they pay for the return shipping.
WHAT IS THE ISSN FOR POETSARTISTS?
PoetsArtists uses ISBN’s not ISSN’s. We use ISSN’s for MiPOesias and OCHO and sometimes ISBN’s as well.
