As a medical practitioner, Sue is a person who's direct, competent, and highly skilled . She brings this clarity and light to her poetry and photography, healing whatever she touches, and believing that poetry is an important observance in daily life. THE DOCTOR SAID

A tall big boned woman, an Orthopedic Surgeon

where I was working as a nurse anesthetist

had been carrying this flag as long as I had known her.

“Oh for Christ Sake! she said

you have to at least check

for semen.”

But why? she fell off the porch,

the ER Doctor said.

“Yeah, yeah she fell onto a stick

which just happened to jam into her

9 year old vagina.

Please Jack, humor me.

All of us here all the Practitioners of this area

need to be aware and watch for sexual abuse.

Make the test, Jack.”

In this small rural town there was so much that was

taken for granted, walked over, someone’s cousin, a friend,

family.

Everyone knew them, nothing wrong there,

and this was her fight,

her awareness.

Sexual abuse happening here, date rape, child abuse.

No time to pretend.
