ARTISTS REVEAL THEIR BREAKTHROUGH WORK | LESLEY THIEL
I can honestly pinpoint ‘Bird In The Hand’ as my breakthrough piece. I knew it even as I worked on it. It was like a moment of realization where I connected my inner voice and my emotions to my eyes and my hands. Before that I had been expressing ideas about things I believe in, but now I dug deep and just put my actual feelings in there. I painted for me and without any thought for how other people would see the piece. And it helped me realize that this is really the only way to communicate through your art. Someone once told me that it is the 10% passion you put into the 90% of technique that gives a painting its magic. I think he was right and that we, as artists, must strive to capture magic in our work, regardless of what we are painting.
