SUBMISSION CALL

For this call, we are going to take a look at artwork of things which have been adorned by permanent or temporary enhancements. Adornments, though typically associated with their use on the human form, can also function in other facets of life. We are open to multiple interpretations of the call.

Artists have the opportunity to explore and share various adornments used historically, regionally, contemporary, and the cultural or personal relevance therein.

All type of artwork is acceptable including photography, video, digital, sculpture, paintings, and drawings.

The work does not have to be available for sale or new. We are producing a beautiful collector's edition highlighting the best of our member's works. Works which are available may be offered the option of having an Artsy Online Exclusive via our partnership with the Zhou B Art Center.

ABOUT THE CURATOR

In 1993 Carol curated an exhibition at the Paarl Museum, ICONS

In 1994 and 1995 she curated exhibitions in Paarl celebrating the first Women’s Day in the new South Africa. There were 50 women from all over the country that participated.

She also curated an exhibition at the Christopher Moller Art Gallery in Cape Town, From the Heart (2015).

In 2018 she served as a judge for State of the Art Gallery Signatures, in Cape Town. The winner of which will be announced in September 2018.

Hodes has never had the desire to practice art herself but marvels at the skill, colour, and magnificence of what artists have brought to life. She began collecting art in the '70s and continues to today.

She sees herself as a firm feminist and is married to a well-known author in South Africa, Elsabe Brits. They live in a painting and book-filled house with their 3 dogs.
